Today Anita, Van, Jeff and I met with John's PCP. We had a long discussion about UPMC, AGH and what to do going forward. I'm confused. One thing was cleared up...he thinks UPMC rejected him because of his head injury. Makes no sense. He has been functioning for 20 years and doing just fine until the cirrhosis kicked in. His PCP said John's kidney, heart and lungs are fine. What gives?
The other thing we discussed was the issue of the abdominal fluid. No easy answer here. AGH says no radiologist will attempt a paracentesis with platelets below 70K. His platelets haven't been above 70K in years and he's been tapped several times. The hepatologist at AGH wants to control the fluid with diuretics which can cause its own set of problems. Today he increased his Lasix to 80mg and Aldactone to 300 mg. I was visiting John this evening and he was peeing like a racehorse (pardon the expression). MAYBE this will work. I told him he was going to feel miserable for a couple of days until this fluid lessens. He needs A LOT of encouragement right now.

Wow! I sure hope John gets the care he needs despite the head injury. I just don't get that. It just doesn't make sense to me. Well, I just wanted you to know that I'm so sorry that you and your family have to go through all of this. I pray God's encouragement upon YOU since you are so needed to encourage John!
Blessings and love
Rachel
Amen to Rachel's comment.
And this just in: Job 14:5
"...his days are determined,
The number of his months is with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass."
You can view this as a 'glass half empty or a glass half full' - our time is determined by the Lord...we are here until the time HE has set for us...we do not stay here longer nor do we leave sooner than HE has determined.
Please take comfort in knowing that God is in charge of John's life and time. I pray that your family will also receive comfort from this verse...as you meet with one another and the doctors, you want what is 'best' - but who knows what that is? You may feel that YOUR decisions and conclusions will change John's future - and that can be a scary place to sit.
That is where Job 14:5 comes in - John's days are determined by the Lord.
We praise HIM for what HE is doing, and encourage one another in the midst of the unknown.
Love,
You know my opinion of doctors....$$$ I agree that "God is in control" and I think you know that too. Keep the faith!
Thanks everyone and good to see you here Rebecca! Are you on Facebook yet? ;) xo
